Latest goings-on in Abersoch
By Bigtimma

Starting at the Top end of the village with Venetia. After a successful xmas and new year period Marco and Jane are closed until Valentines day when they are open pretty much for the season again. The food is good the place is good and the service is good....if you didn't try it last year make the effort, its well worth it.

Sunrise on the longest day of the year 2008 - Chosen by Cheeky - Photo totallyabersoch.co.uk

Goslings are offering winter short break packages which are keeping the guys there busy...again a good place to eat in the summer

Fresh have been open all winter as usual and have provided many a good night throughout the off season with cheap drinks and good music on an almost weekly basis.

Across the road where the fruit and veg shop was there will be a new arrival this year with Drift moving in from their base down the road. The new shop will have the full range of mens and ladies Superdry goodies as well as a couple of new brands.

The Chippy has provided me with a good few portions of Fish and chips over the winter and its as good as ever.

The Tuds is undergoing a massive refurb to the back bar and patio area which will update the pub massively.

The Sandpiper has changed hands and is now uner the command of Gary, Rob and Ceri who you'll all recognise from various places around the village. The idea is pub, with good beer, San Mig £1.80 a pint, good food, Cheeseburger and chips £5.50...and its a proper mans burger as well! and a nice atmosphere. It scores well and with some comfy seating and some upgrades happening as I write this it could well be the place to be this summer.

Moving down the road a bit, the Deli Cafe is undergoing what can only be described as a MASSIVE refurb. Don't panic it is still open for business and has been all winter as usual. The idea here is to convert the cottage at the rear of the cafe into a restaurant and lounge bar for evening use, with a large patio area out to the rear overlooking a fantastic boatyard! With things as they are and the season looming it might not be complete until later in the season, but when it is it'll be worth a visit for sure.

Most of the other places are keeping it real and plodding on over the winter and most of the clothes shops are gearing up with the next big thing for the discerning shopper. There are rumours about a possible invasion of a couple of shops by a chav brand of clothing but theres nothing concrete yet!

Then of course theres us at the boatyard...thats down the steps next to the shop. We have changed the way we are operating for 2009 and are concentrating mainly on powerboats and launching for the upcoming season. We will still be selling the excellent Ocean Kayaks, Yamaha Engines and Rib-X ribs and also the odd toy boat here and there, but mainly we will be offering park and launch at the best yard in the village and a price that won't break the bank!

Thats my plug over so what else is new....well not much....but do remember that your journey down from the North West will be speeded up and made much nicer by the new road from Clynnog to Llanelhearn which is coming along nicely. Some of the new sections are open already although there is a 30mph limit it is much better for towing boats and caravans along....but as always watch out for Mr Bruntrums minions with their speed cameras, they're out there!

So the new season beckons and many of you will be readying caravans and getting bedding ready for that first visit of the season and hopefully it will be a great one.

Enjoy it!

First Visit of 2010

No doubt a few members have already visited this year but our first visit should hopefully be some time during February half term and we can't wait!

Not been to Abersoch since October and it does seem like a long time between visits.

Now Christmas is over, I do need something to look forward to in a dismal January.

Anyone else got any trips planned?

Another year! How do they go by so fast?

Has anyone any news on any changes we will see in the village this year? What new (and old) things have we got to look forward to in 2010?

an update from anyone in the know would be great and you don't need to worry, we won't tell anyone

Hello , is anyone out there ? I am fed up of contributing to very mundane letters , which are so , lacking in structure and so boring!!!
I know you have all had a very bad Winter, but for gods sake do try to contribute. Think positive , and lets all try to meet up at some stage this Summer, I know it is easier said than done. But with all of you regulars, surely you could organise a get together for some date in Summer. And we can all get to meet each other at last, I know you will all say thats easy for him to say , living over there in Australia, but lets try to do it. I will leave this one open so do give some input guys. Looking forward to hearing from you all.
Cheers Keith xxx

I am always looking around the various Llyn websites.

Probably one of the 'lesser' known ones is www.rhiw.com

There are some excellent photos on there including some aerial ones taken from a paramotor.

Have a look round and enjoy!

What`s happened to the Warren Beach?

Just got back yesterday from a week camping and was shocked by the state of the warren beach. It appears to me that all the sand from the high tide mark has been washed away leaving gravel all the way down to the low tide mark. Also towards the Abersoch end, what appears to be an old forest has been uncovered at low water, basically timber tree stumps and clay ( could be a time team special!).
Gone have the days of cricket and footy on the beach.

The four seasonals

Hi all!

well, it's that time of the year again where you gird you loins for the huge bill that is the forth coming seasonal fee...approximately £1 per raindrop at the last count. Seriously, though, was just wondering what's out there and what prices are like for the immediate Abersoch area as our usual letter has not arrived......Failing that I may have to setle for a 3 week cruise in the Maldives for the same price! Don't know what I will do without the wasps, sheep, muckspreading and broken glass on the beach not to mention that lovely tepid rain. Oh well...sorry to disappoint those Vivaldi fans amongst you. Post back please (I was sort of joking, I love Abersoch)

Carpe Diem and all that jazz

Am sat in my 'computer' room (cupboard) musing on the meaning of life whilst rendered temporarily speechless by schweinfloo and flicking through what seem to be the death throes of this fab website feeling quite sad. I remember pre facebook, etc the thrill of being able to log on and 'speak' to like minded souls who appreciate the beauty, cameraderie and in my case insanity of Abersoch. My best memories are based here as are some of my favourite people. Adverse weather does seem to bring out the best in people, although the cancellation of the Abersoch Olympics was a blow. However silly saturday was a success as always and I'm sure you were all moved by the influx of drunken scotsmen and a bagpiper.Where was I?...OH YES CARPE DIEM (free Latin lesson folks it means sieze the day) Let's all go forth and do silly postable stuff then share without the fear of being 'added' as a friend by some deep south serial killer. Here's to local, like minded friendship!Check me back (a bit of slang for our younger Abersoch aficionadoes)

Have you noticed the new format for the daily photos. I wonder if it's a new person taking the photos who lives at the far end of Main Beach. They seem a bit more 'arty' than the old ones. But I don't mind who takes them, as long as I get to see my special place every day.
